How a Personal Organizer Can Help

I recently had the opportunity to help a family with their downsizing project, and was told that my message, how a personal organizer can help, was not clear.

At first I wanted to say…Really? Seriously? How do you Not understand how and why a personal (and professional) organizer can help you cut through the clutter, eliminate items, purge, find organizational solutions and help you make effective changes to improve your current situation.

Well, I guess I was wrong – I had not clearly explained how I could help this client because she thought that I only worked with hoarders (and she is definitely not a hoarder). Well, you know that I do work with hoarders and those that struggle with hoarding tendencies. It is not, however, the only type of client that I help.

So, I’d like to take a moment to just talk about 5 type of situations where a personal organizer can help you.

This is one section of the basement before we started working together. This image is not to be used without permission from Organization Direct.

First – Downsizing (a large part of the population is downsizing – for multiple reasons). Not only do we help you make decisions about what to keep, we also help eliminate furniture items (and sell them if that is your best option). We give you the opportunity to enjoy your new home.

Second – Before you downsize (and take all of your items into your new home), call a personal organizer. This can save you a ton of frustration. We can help you identify the amount of items and furniture that will fit into your new, smaller space.

Third – We can help you unpack your new home! Making the decision about where everything should go in your new home can be daunting. We can easily identify places and spaces that will allow you to find what you need when you need it.

Fourth – We help baby-boomers. Since I am a baby boomer myself, I understand the real struggle and worry that my clients face. And, I’m not talking about our own “stuff” now. I’m talking about our parents “stuff”. I have met so many people who are very concerned about downsizing their parents items – so that they do not have to deal with it when their parents are gone. These are my forward thinking clients who want their parents to enjoy life – and enjoy their life too.

Fifth – Those with traumatic health issues, ADHD, children with too many toys, military clients who are “overweight” because they have collected too many items, etc. I can personally understand a lot of these issues. I have had to deal with traumatic medical issues – my husband was going through this 8 years ago today! My husband and 1 child were diagnosed with ADD – and my daughter with PTSD. My husband retired from the Marine Corps and I am located in an area with lots and lots of military service members and yes, I have team members that can help you along the way.

If you are focused on making a change in 2016, consider giving us a call. This has been an amazingly busy Christmas season filled with people who are ready, willing and able to make a positive change. We can help you make a change too!

The above before and after pictures are the result of a total of 62 hours of organizing. 24 hours in 3 days and 4 assistants! I hope that this has shed some light on how a personal organizer can help you get organized.
