Using the DGT GTD App to Avoid Procrastination
So many struggle with too much to do and too little time. Working with my Organized Entrepreneur clients, I continue to learn what is on their plate – and how overwhelming they feel when they try to become and stay organized. The process of trying to figure out what to do first – and then how to start the process of becoming organized – seems too scary to even try to get organized. And, the result of the length of their To Do List and that overwhelm feeling of what they expect of themselves, can cause procrastination. I started using my DGT GTD App to avoid procrastination.
So, do you know why you procrastinate? First, let’s define what Procrastination means:
1. To Postpone something
2. Hold off doing something
3. Wait until later to do something
A few examples of Procrastination:
1. I’ll wait until the night before the test to study
2. I don’t need to worry – I’ll get an extension
3. I will get to it later.
According to Edward Young – Procrastination is the thief of time
One of the ways that I have found, and advocate to my Organized Entrepreneur clients, to avoid procrastination is to use a calendar on a daily basis. I think that it is important to make sure that we know exactly what is on our calendar and set those deadlines and goals accordingly. Of course, this means finding a calendar system that resonates with your personality – but really, that isn’t hard to do. There isn’t a right or wrong calendar system – but you Have to use it. The Franklin Planner or Planner Pad that is sitting collecting dust is not going to give you the results that you desire. It is a total waste of money. Action is required to receive results.
So, I identify what needs to be done on a specific day – immediately setting deadlines that will allow me to reach my goals – and not procrastinate. I have found that post-it notes, sticky notes, and paper simply cause more paper clutter and are not productive – for my personality. Of course, this doesn’t mean that a paper system would not be productive for you and your needs! It is totally dependent on your thought process and personality. For my business – and personal organization, I use the DGT GTD app on my android phone. I have found that it allows me to identify “Hot” items, identify tasks, projects, tags, and alarms – among other features. It took me just a few days to really “learn” how to use the app and it didn’t take long for me to absolutely love it! the DGT GTD app meets my needs and I can identify things that need to be put on my To Do List 2-3 weeks down the road – even next month, the next quarter or next year!
Finding what works for you to allow you to:
1. save time
2. meet deadlines
3. reach your goals
I’d like to repeat this again – the isn’t a right or wrong way to track your To Do List. The options to help you reach your goals are almost limitless. The key is to find something that works for you and your personality and then stick to it!! Don’t give up – whether you procrastinate or not – it’s Up To You!
