Organize Your Day

To Organize your Day includes doing certain things that you do instinctively and are just a part of your daily routine.  Part of my daily routine includes being the first person up every day.  Typically, at least 1 hour before anyone else and spending some quiet time for myself.  I may read, meditate or exercise while doing some small household chores. I do it all without even thinking about it.  Your

morning routine may be similar or may include pouring yourself a cup of coffee, quiet time with a good book or reading the newspaper. I’m willing to bet that you have a routine that you follow – even if you may not think you do.

Your Daily To Do List

So why do so many struggle with daily activities?  The list of things that need to be done to “Organize Your Day” can be long but probably includes things like:  checking emails, answering phone calls, preparing for meetings and or clients, household chores and activities, drop-off and pick-up of children, and preparing for meals.  Organizing your day doesn’t have to be difficult.  It does, however, take planning and some time management.

And, when you look at the long list that you just made of all of the things that need to be done today, it can be just too overwhelming.  This is what can easily keep you from being productive.  And this is why, I think that it is a good idea to have routines that you follow – to a certain degree.

What is Your Routine?

When you go to the gym, you have a routine that you follow, right?  You probably have a set time frame that you are going to be there and that includes treadmill time, bicycle time, and sauna time. Just the same, when you do any number of household chores, you have a routine.  When you do the laundry the clothes have to be gathered, sorted, put into the washing machine, put the laundry soap into the machine, turn it on and walk away.  Putting this all down on paper can make it seem a little overwhelming…but, it literally takes only a few minutes and you are done.  So don’t become overwhelmed.  Realistically a lot of items on our daily To Do List take only minutes of our time.

One of the best things that you can do to help organize your day is to have a simple daily routine that you follow.  Why?  What happens if you let things go to the wayside instead of taking care of them on a daily or weekly basis.  They can easily become too overwhelming to handle at a later time.  A good example of those type of activities are:  filing paperwork, handling mail and your bookkeeping.  It is best to develop a routine and organize your day by including these activities into your schedule.  Daily it takes minutes of your time…let go without paying attention to it could mean hours (or days) of your time.

Change is Good!

Every day is not the same, thank goodness!  Wouldn’t that be just boring?  Organizing your day can not include the unknown and unexpected.  There is always a need to be flexible and prepared for what you cannot (and do not) expect.  And, it usually seems that the unexpected happens at the least convenient time.  Be open and flexible.  Don’t panic when the unexpected happens.  Accept the unexpected and stay focused on keeping your day organized.
